Bit By Bite

The Daily Health Conference, an organisation that has been promoting wellbeing since 1983, asked us to design an innovative app that would help people in some aspect related to wellbeing. Our team decided to link it to good eating habits, as this represents a constant challenge and a recurring theme in today's society. From here, we identified the main problems to address.

research process.

To investigate whether our hypotheses were true, we carried out both qualitative and quantitative analysis: the qualitative research was done through personal interviews, while the quantitative part was based on survey data that we later analyzed.

user persona.

By bringing together all the data we collected, we built our user persona in the most realistic and relatable way. Her name is Pippa Roni, and she is a nurse living in Madrid who feels exhausted by the unrealistic standards imposed by society. She has her own frustrations and goals, and those are exactly what we decided to focus on.

At this point, Pippa has followed the path of many people who try to use food tracking apps. Consistency does not last if the person feels unmotivated or if it consumes too much time in their life. So, we ask ourselves:

How can we help Pippa find an easy way to reach her goal?

design process.

For the designing phase, we went through the complete process: starting with low fidelity wireframes to define the structure, then mid fidelity to refine the flows and interactions, and finally high fidelity to bring the visual identity to life. In the mid fidelity prototype is where we did most of the work and made the biggest changes.

Below is the moodboard we assembled to establish the visual direction and guide our high-fidelity design.

In total, we design more than 8 screens, including: cover, homepage, journal page, healthy recipe page (x2), progress track (x2) and profile. We also design some state pages that you can see in the complete prototype.

conclusion.

This project has been particularly valuable in my learning process. Starting from scratch and with limited time, we managed to achieve a very solid result. We learned not to think about solutions from the beginning, but rather to investigate, put ourselves in the user's shoes, understand their needs and objectives, and build gradually.

This approach allowed us to adapt to changes and recover from mistakes without any problems. Bit by Bite was not only a design exercise for students, but also proof that empathy with the user and constant iteration are the key to creating valuable products.
